šEl Abd Vs BLaban: A Controversial Ad Campaign That Turned Into A Legal Battle!
The recent advertising campaign by āBlabanā has stirred up a storm in the Egyptian sweets industry, leading El Abd Sweets to take legal action. The campaign started with a sweet and sincere thank you to those whoāve made Kahk a beloved Eid tradition ā from the bakers to those who cherish it as part of the holiday ritual. But things quickly took a cheeky turn.
In one scene, the ad directly addressed the man who claims to have created Kahk, saying, āThanks for the legacy⦠but this year, step aside, because Blaban is bringing new creations and flavors!ā
The unexpected move has stirred up quite a bit of drama!
The sweets company El Abd, feeling that the campaign is unfairly tarnishing their reputation, has officially filed a complaint with Engineer Khaled Abdel Aziz, head of the Supreme Council for Media Regulation, demanding that the āBlabanā campaign be stopped.
The company claimed that the ad is misleading and disrespects the legacy of their late founder, Ahmed Abdel Rahim Al Abd, a pioneer in Egyptās sweets industry and a key figure in the Cairo Chamber of Commerce and Confectionery Division.
Is it just a competition?
For El Abd, this goes beyond healthy competition. Theyāre not just concerned about the rivalry between the two brands but are focused on protecting the integrity of their brand and honoring the memory of their founder.
They believe that the āBlabanā ad misuses their legacy and could mislead the public about their values and ethics.
As the legal battle heats up, the drama has spilled over onto social media and the internet keeps buzzing with all the drama!

š°š¬EGP 16K for a Box of Kahk?! This Yearās Prices Are Breaking RecordsāAnd Wallets!
This yearās box of Kahk might break the bank this Eid!
Ramadan is wrapping up, and you know what that meansākahk season is officially here! But this year, something other than powdered sugar is leaving a mark⦠the price tags!
Word on the street (and all over social media) is that one luxury bakery has priced a single box of kahk at a jaw-dropping EGP 16,000! While this might be an extreme case, thereās no denying that kahk prices have skyrocketed across the board. On average, a decent box will now set you back anywhere between EGP 800 to EGP 2,500āand letās be honest, thatās enough to make anyone second-guess their sweet tooth!
Inflation has undoubtedly played a role, but people canāt help but poke fun at how kahk is turning into a luxury item. Social media reactions have been golden, with memes comparing kahk to designer handbags and tweets joking that families might need a payment plan just to afford their holiday treats this year.
Despite the hefty price tags, one thing is for sureākahk is a non-negotiable part of Eid. Whether youāre splurging on the fancy stuff or sticking to a good old homemade batch, the tradition (and the sugar rush) lives on!
What do you thinkāwould you ever pay that much for a box of kahk, or are you dusting off grandmaās recipe instead?
