• The hit series Catalog, starring Mohamed Farrag as Youssef, a widowed father trying to navigate parenthood, has found itself at the center of a heated online debate—all because of one scene.

• Youssef, who had no prior relationship to his kids, is caught off guard when his daughter gets her first period and asks him to buy her pads.

• He panics, walks into a store, and ends up buying the wrong kind, and that’s the last people see of the topic. That’s the scene. But once it hit the internet, the reactions were anything but simple.

• A portion of viewers found the moment completely inappropriate. Some called it “disgusting,” others said it was “unnecessary” and “too much for TV.”

• They believed that periods are a private matter—one that shouldn’t be portrayed so openly on screen, especially in a family drama. Some even found it shameful.
